Taichi Yonaha
For the artist Taichi Yonaha, born in Okinawa in 1967, the landscapes he grew up with have become a significant part of his work and artistic impulse. Growing up in Okinawa, a place with U.S. military bases and a unique history, studying in Philadelphia, and spending 35 years in Tsukuba, he has always been conscious of the ambiguity of his own identity. This ambiguity persists in his consciousness and is continuously explored in his works. The process of creating his paintings is itself his way of questioning.

The ever-shifting clouds and the gradually changing colors reflect his consciousness, seemingly embracing an ambiguous existence. The faint light in shadows and dim colors represents the "light of existence," a hymn to human existence in this beautiful yet maddening world. Yonaha aims to capture the scent of light and the sensation of breathing within his canvases.

In a world where the distinction between the weak and the strong is stark and the web, constantly connected, is a chaotic celebration, society seems to have become richer and more convenient. Yet, like a mirage, it collapses into war. Nothing is certain in this world, which flows by without stopping. In such a time, Taichi Yonaha continues to depict light in the shifting, formless colors.
