Takahiro Oyama
Takahiro Oyama, a graduate of the Sculpture Area in the Arts and Culture Department at the Tohoku University of Art and Design, creates wood carvings primarily featuring drag queens, performers who dress in an exaggeratedly feminine manner, mainly portrayed by gay men. Beyond the flamboyant makeup, costumes, and high heels, drag queens express femininity with a theatrical flair. Oyama reexamines culture and history from an artistic perspective, preserving them as sculptures.

This exhibition, his first at Tagboat, will showcase approximately 13 pieces, including wood carvings measuring up to 3 meters in height and prints. Oyama challenges societal norms regarding 'gender,' aiming to create opportunities for us to reconsider these fixed ideas. Through his artwork, he seeks to inspire a reevaluation of preconceptions, contributing to a society where everyone can live authentically.
