Takuma Nishiya
This is Takuma Nishiya's first solo exhibition at Hideharu Fukasaku Gallery Roppongi gallery in six years.

Nishitani has primarily showcased unique, design-centric works featuring animals as motifs. However, this exhibition will present pieces created with a different approach.

In this series, Nishitani focuses on the duality within himself—his masculine and feminine aspects—which he likens to Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto from Japanese mythology. Just as these deities stirred the sea with a spear to create Onogoro Island and began building the nation, Nishitani metaphorically pierces his heart with a paintbrush to bring forth images that exist between his conscious and unconscious mind, attempting to create his version of Onogoro Island and the myriad gods. He emphasizes that, contrary to his previous works which involved layering paint and highlighting design elements, these new pieces prioritize spontaneity and serendipity through techniques such as flinging and dripping paint.

Nishitani, who has long desired to explore and present his dual nature, sees his previous works as "outward-facing, seeking connection with others," whereas these new pieces are "inward-facing, building the self." By embracing both outward and inward exploration, Nishitani believes his potential as an artist will expand.
