The "Tamashin Collection," began its collection activities in the 1970s. This exhibition introduces works from the three pillars of the collection- Japanese modern art, Oriental antiquities, and artists from Tama- along with the history of collection formation.

Japanese modern art comprises works by artists active during the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods. Particularly, in terms of painting, it allows us to trace the unique trend and development of modern Japanese Western-style painting. Oriental antiquities encompass a wide range of East Asian ceramic history, including Chinese Sancai and Ding Kiln white porcelain, Korean Goryeo and Joseon white porcelain, as well as Japanese Imari and Nabeshima ware. These works have long been introduced in exhibitions at the Tamashin Historical and Art Museum and the Mitake Art Museum.

Lastly, artists from Tama consist of works by artists based in the Tama region. They include exhibition pieces from the "Tamashin Gallery" (closed in 2019), which was established in 1974 at the former main office of the Tama Shinkin Bank as a venue for local artists' presentations. It comprises works by local artists such as Saburo Kurata, Kensaburo Matsumura, and Masanosuke Onuki, whom our museum has collected a considerable number of works and materials from.

The "Tamashin Collection" embodies the idea of "people living in Tama or creating based in Tama being able to casually experience art."
