The term "found object" refers to everyday items or natural products that are repurposed into artworks. It can be rephrased as "objects that are discovered."
In Taro Maruyama's sculptures, elements that deviate from traditional art historical forms of sculpture coexist with found objects familiar in contemporary life, creating contrast and humor. The "statues," shaped from materials like wood or Styrofoam, are juxtaposed with seemingly unrelated items such as building materials, wallpaper, plastic products, and dried foods. This approach and sense of balance resonate with the act of remixing songs across various genres and eras in music, reflecting the modern condition where all kinds of contexts and information intersect and impact our perception.
Keisuke Yamamoto has worked in both sculpture and painting. His works feature organic motifs that evoke plants, animals, and minerals simultaneously, often presenting pieces that appear to be "sculptures of objects or tools someone (or possibly myself) might have used, altered, or attached." Intervening in the form of found objects resonates with the Japanese cultural practices of making analogies and anthropomorphizing objects, while also demonstrating how the function or meaning of everyday items can be disrupted. Conversely, his works that trace the forms of ready-made items like cardboard in wood carving achieve a unique texture, seamlessly bridging tools for daily life and art.
