Eikichi Iwata
There are few concrete clues as to how music was involved in Eikichi Iwata's paintings or their production. Nonetheless, there are songs and composers that Iwata seems to have encountered and been influenced by at various stages of his painting career, suggesting that he was not entirely disconnected from music.

Art and music, which have coexisted since ancient times in religious and ritual contexts, began to evolve in directions seeking unique expressions for each artist as they entered the modern era where individuality was emphasized. However, from the late 19th century, when doubts about "modernity" began to emerge, art and music once again began to coexist in the "inner world" of humans.

With the leaps in recording and playback technology, and with various kinds of music permeating every aspect of daily life today, it wouldn't be surprising if the music that resonated with the artist's creative drive influenced his work, even if it just subtly seeped onto the canvas. This exhibition aims to explore such aspects in Iwata's paintings.
