The Edo Rinpa School and Jishu Kiln

Torek Museum of Art
Finished
During the later period of the Momoyama era in Kyoto, the Rinpa school of aesthetic sensibility emerged. About 100 years later in Edo, inspired by Rinpa, a graceful artistic style called Edo Rinpa blossomed under Sakai Hoitsu. The exhibition will feature works by Sakai Hoitsu, Suzuki Kiitsu, Oho Sakai, and Doitsu Sakai.

In ceramics, the exhibition will showcase pottery from the Mino kilns, known for everyday ware production. The Mino kilns are famous for their unique beauty created through diverse decorative techniques. The exhibition will display 18 pieces, including those with white glaze, black scratch-off patterns on white, and white slip decoration.

Additionally, the exhibition will include seven Buddhist sculptures from Asia (including permanent collection pieces) and works by Mokichi Okada.
