Flower-and-bird paintings have long been cultivated and painted according to the Japanese climate and the sensibility of the Japanese people. Since its opening, the Shouhaku Art Museum has held 23 exhibitions of flower-and-bird paintings, and since 2016, it has held three Shouhaku Japanese Painting Exhibitions, regardless of genre. However, due to various circumstances due to COVID-19, the museum has been unable to hold public exhibitions for the past two years.

Therefore, as an opportunity to look back on the history of the public call for artists, this year’s exhibition will introduce the work of the Excellence Award winners, following the Grand Prize winners of the previous year. Due to the large number of award winners, the exhibition will be held twice, once this year and once next year, and each artist will be given a wall to freely present their current work. During the exhibition, works by Shoen, Shoko, and Atsushi Uemura will also be on display in the Special Exhibition Room.
