The Glass City Toyama Collaboration Exhibition "Living with Glass"

Toyama Glass Art Museum
Finished
For over 30 years, Toyama City has positioned glass as one of the pillars of its town planning policies. This commitment is evident through initiatives such as the Toyama Glass Sculpture Institute (established in 1991 to nurture glass artists), Toyama Glass Studio (established in 1994 to promote glass as a cultural industry), and the Toyama City Glass Art Museum (opened in 2015 to appreciate glass as an art form). Toyama City, with these three pillars as its foundation, has become a leading city in the world in promoting the creation of a "Glass City."

One of these pillars, the Toyama Glass Studio, began in 1994 as a production studio (now a cooperative studio) with an attached shop. In 2004, to encourage the establishment of younger artists, it expanded to include creative studios (rental facilities) and a gallery as a presentation space. In 2012, it further developed an experience studio (the second studio) to allow a broader audience to engage in glassmaking, contributing to the promotion of glass as a cultural industry.

In this exhibition, curated by Masanori Oji, a professional in branding and product design for craft manufacturers across the country, we present the work of 22 current glass studio artists. The theme is "Glass Still Being Made in 5 Years." In a rapidly advancing information society, we take on the challenge of creating glass as a timeless and enduring element. Additionally, enjoy the collaborative installation with Mr. Oji, a unique experience available only during this exhibition.
