"The Power of the Seto Inland Sea as Told by Its Landscapes - Resonance of Nature, History, and People."

The Kagawa Museum
Finished
This fall, this exhibition will take place as a part of the Setouchi International Art Festival 2022.

The Seto Inland Sea, the largest inland sea in Japan, is surrounded by the coastlines of 11 prefectures in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, with a coastline of 7,230 km (equivalent to the straight line distance between Kagawa and Hawaii) and over 700 islands in the sea. Since ancient times, the rich nature of the Seto Inland Sea has been blended with the history and lifestyles of its people, creating a landscape that resonates with both natural and humanistic landscapes.

This exhibition focuses on approximately 100 paintings carefully selected with the cooperation of more than 30 art museums in the Kansai, Chugoku, and Shikoku regions. The work depicting the Seto Inland Sea from the Middle Ages to the present day is gathered under the five themes of "Utopia," "Nature," "Life," "Places of Interest," and "Modern Times and the Future."
