The Return of Yoshitoshi's Dosojin Festival Curtain Painting

Yamanashi Prefectural Museum
Finished

Artists

Honen Tsukioka
In the Edo period, the Dosojin Festival in the castle town of Kofu was adorned with hundreds of "maki-e" paintings during the New Year celebrations. One of these paintings was created by the ukiyo-e artist Yoshitoshi Tsukioka, depicting a scene from the Taiko Memoirs with bold brushstrokes.

This exhibition will introduce the restored painting that has been dismantled and repaired in the years 2021-2022, along with new information revealed during the restoration process. Additionally, we will also showcase maki-e paintings by the first and second-generation Hiroshige."
