The Shape of Prayer: Exhibition of Tadanobu Sakai's Collection of Nomadic Kilim and Tribal Carpets

Quadrivium Ostium
Finished
Kilim is a traditional plain weave woolen fabric made by nomadic tribes of Iran, Turkey, and other Muslim countries in Western and Central Asia, and has been used as a tent rug, partition, storage bag, and other necessities of nomadic life. Its original designs have also been used as interior decoration in Europe and the United States.

This exhibition features Old Kilims made more than 100 years ago from the collection of Tadanobu Sakai, a collector of Kilims and tribal carpets. Old kilims are deeply rooted in people's spirit as they were used as rugs for important milestones in life, such as a bride's wedding, or daily prayers, and are rare and precious items.

The designs are woven with primitive patterns that incorporate familiar animals, plants, trees, and other natural elements, allowing visitors to feel the rich imagination and breath of life.

The gallery's antique collection will also be on display for sale. Visitors can enjoy rare private collections that have not been distributed in the market as well as antiques from the East and West.
