The Treasures of Mount Kinpu and the Sacred Buddha

Miho Museum
Finished
The Autumn special exhibition presents a collection of artifacts from the Mount Kinpu Sutra Mound, which was excavated during the "Utaki Pilgrimage" of the Heian aristocrats to Mount Kinpu in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, which has been considered a sacred site for Shugendo since ancient times. The burial of sutras from the pilgrimage to Mount Kinpu by the Heian aristocrats, which began with the pilgrimage of Fujiwara no Michinaga to Mount Kinpu, has been handed down to the present as relics from the Mount Kinpu Sutra Mound.

This exhibition introduces some aspects of the Heian aristocrats' belief in and admiration for Mount Kinpu through artifacts excavated from the mountain, including some newly identified artifacts.
