Horses are thought to have been domesticated about 5,500 years ago. Domestication is the process by which humans breed, domesticate, and breed wild animals to make them useful in their own lives. Of these, "domestication" simply means "caring for" them. In addition to feeding, watering, and cleaning the horse's body and surroundings, observing the horse carefully and providing appropriate "care" will help build a good relationship between the horse and people.

What kind of care has been provided for horses in Japan in the past? This exhibition explores what has changed and what has remained the same in the past and present with regard to stabling, feeding and watering, body care, hoof care, medical care, manure disposal, and so on, through materials from the Equine Museum of Japan"s collection.
