The Yusaku Kamekura Award was established in 1999 to honor the achievements of graphic designer Yusaku Kamekura, who passed away suddenly in 1997, and to contribute to the development of graphic design. The award is administered and selected by the Japan Graphic Design Association (JAGDA), and is presented annually to the most outstanding work and its creator from among the entries to the Graphic Design in Japan annual magazine.

This year, the 25th edition, Tomohiro Okazaki's "Design Aneo Ano Theme," a content video for a broadcasting station program, and Haruka Misawa's kindergarten signage project “Tamatsukuri Kindergarten" were selected for the Yusaku Okakura Award respectively.

Okazaki's work is a program content video for a broadcasting station using only the letter "A" and white paper as materials. The selection committee members commented that "Okazaki's work is unique in the world for its deep pursuit of the commonplace technique of time-lapse animation, reaching an unrivaled realm," and that "it evokes the origin of graphic design, which is how an image is conveyed as a visual experience."

Misawa's work is a signage plan for a kindergarten that makes full use of cylindrical shapes and unique color schemes. The award was given to Misawa's work for "the delicacy common to Misawa's work, which has been competing for awards at a high level for the past several years," and "this work shows the breadth of his expression by discovering and establishing a new approach to design.

To commemorate the award, solo exhibitions by Okazaki and Misawa will be held in June and July, respectively.
