Artists

Toshiyuki Kimura
This exhibition marks Toshiyuki Kimura's first show at Rod Gallery.

What comes to mind when you hear the term "Spiritual Barrier"? Shrines, sacred mountains, ritual platforms, exorcists, etc. The material realm and the unknown extend like a gradient along the continuum of everyday life. Kimura's artworks offer glimpses into this unknown territory.

Kimura's installations use a noren (traditional Japanese fabric divider) found on the roadside, metaphorically serving as a partition in this realm. Other works incorporate a photograph of a girl from a Shichi-Go-San (a traditional celebration for children of specific ages) ceremony found at a shrine. The curiosity towards the unknown becomes art, quietly emitting a new significance that glows akin to radium.
