Traveling Paintersー Tsuguharu Foujita and Shinichi Saito

Akita Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Tsuguharu Foujita, Shinichi Saito
As Tsuguharu Foujita said, "I will be a traveler until I die." In the 1930s, he left Paris and traveled to Latin America, North America, Japan, and China. The cultures and climates of these countries inspired him to experiment with new motifs and compositions. In 1959, Shinichi Saito went to Europe to study and met Foujita, whom he admired, in France. Foujita recommended Saito to visit the Akita and Tohoku regions, which he depicted later in his career. This exhibition will focus on the "journey" that was the source of Fujita's and Saito's creativity and explore the meaning of "travel" in their respective art careers.
