Artists

Tyler Vlahovich
Tyler Vlahovich was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1967. He is currently based in Los Angeles and has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, Mexico, Berlin, Brussels, and various other cities.

Vlahovich creates abstract paintings on a variety of structures, including canvas, irregularly shaped pieces of wood, pre-made cardboard, and paper. Vlahovich, a long-time electronic music hobbyist, adds motifs to his work as if improvising, letting them drift, change, and elaborately take form as paintings.

Vlahovich's paintings are characterized by large yellow circles, polygonal browns, greens, whites, oranges, and blues, all of which are painted in a variety of colors. For him, the application of paint conveys mood and atmosphere, while the spatial composition of the painting conveys the context of the work.

The "Bags" series is a simple cartoon-like depiction of space, related to a paper bag in a grocery store. The "Wave" series is a space composed of a series of events, which he sees as a wave of transmission. The surfaces of the works are sometimes rubbed to create a pleasing sensory texture, and their unique abstraction is fluid, mutable, and a bit surprising.

Vlahovich's work fills the canvas with a freedom and character based on his life's practices and thoughts.
