Unveiling Tutankhamen: The Pharaoh's Timeless Adolescence

Kadokawa Culture Museum
Finished
Last year, 2022, marked the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's royal tomb by archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. Pyramids and the ancient Egyptian civilization are still being studied and excavated in various ways, and new discoveries are being made one after another. This exhibition will focus on Tutankhamen, one of the most famous kings in the world.

The concept of the exhibition is “History is Story!!" Based on the idea that history contains stories, the exhibition will create a space in which visitors can imagine how Tutankhamen lived and thought in his time by viewing him as a flesh-and-blood human being, rather than as a historical figure from over 3,000 years ago.

Tutankhamen succeeded his father, Akhenaten, at the age of only 8 or 9, and is said to have died at 19. The period during which he ascended to the throne as king and pharaoh coincided with his youth.

This exhibition will recreate the life and story of the boy king by combining a number of exquisite reproductions with the latest digital technology. Distinct from the art exhibitions held in the previous 100 years, this Tutankhamen exhibition will be the first step of the next 100 years and will be an experiential exhibition that combines history and technology.
