Hokusai Katsushika
Hokusai Katsushika (1760-1849), a world-renowned ukiyoe artist of the Edo period, created numerous masterpieces from the age of 19 until his death at the age of 90. In 1814, the first edition of his "Hokusai Manga" was published as a model for his pupils, and it was well received by the general public. He vividly depicted everything from people's lives, flora and fauna, natural phenomena, and famous scenic spots around the country to gods, Buddha, and ghosts. His elegant brushwork, dynamic composition, and humorous depictions of people's features and fleeting movements eloquently illustrate the remarkable artistic ability and eye of Hokusai, who called himself a "painting fanatic old man" and continued to paint until he was 90 years old.

This exhibition introduces approximately 200 carefully selected works from Mitsuru Uragami's "Hokusai Manga" collection, which is said to be the world's largest in quality and quantity.
