Vivienne Sato
An exhibition by Vivienne Sato, a drag queen, a "non-architect" who doesn’t build structures, a film critic, and a community revitalizer active across various fields, titled "proof of absence."

As a contemporary artist, Sato presents works that transcend various dimensions of methods and motifs. These include planar works inspired by the Rorschach test used in psychoanalysis, and three-dimensional framed pieces containing fragments of the last pages of novelist Kafka’s works along with tarantula molts.

"When considering content and form in art, what do we see before us? The endless production and acceptance of 'archetypes' and their 'repetition'—are we still trapped in the inferno of simulacra, or merely enjoying a lukewarm breeding ground?"

One of the highlights of this exhibition is the works featuring motifs of spider webs and nets, which serve as an homage to her own art.

"I’ve been drawing detailed illustrations since my teens, akin to the Western art's horror vacui that seeks to fill the canvas with images. This sensibility is now far from my current age. However, my present self exists because of my past, and I want to breathe life into past works without denying them. Moreover, I believe my current self is also influenced by the future. The past and the future run parallel to the present."

Vivienne Sato reveals things that have become invisible from our current perspective, providing essential insights to those feeling the dissonance between thoughts and reality. This exhibition, surveying her past activities and promising new expressions, is one not to be missed.
