For its inaugural exhibition, Amateur will host an exhibition featuring the works of painter Takashi Kamo, sculptor Taro Maruyama, and photographer System of Culture. What unites these three artists is their engagement with the concept of "everyday life," each reinterpreting and reconstructing it to present in their artwork.

Takashi Kamo has created works reflecting the post-3.11 reality, particularly the situation in Fukushima, through extensive fieldwork. The pieces exhibited at Amateur depict Japan after the earthquake disaster, portraying the limits that climbers, metaphorically represented by a mountain, can reach without oxygen tanks.

Sculptor Taro Maruyama combines various materials such as wood, feathers, soft vinyl figures, and iron pillars, creating diverse artworks. Similar to the diversity of materials used, his motivation for creation is drawn from the miscellaneous visual, emotional, and sensory information encountered in everyday life. By rearranging and reconstructing these elements, he builds entirely new images.

In the exhibited work, System of Culture's "Still Life" series updates the format of still life painting to the contemporary era, drawing on classical painting and film theories as a foundation. What might seem like everyday snapshots are meticulously calculated scenes, even those appearing to be bathed in natural sunlight are artificially constructed using strobes and other techniques. This series analyzes and reconstructs the elements that constitute everyday life in contemporary society.
