Walking Around A Town of Tiles

Mosaic Tile Museum Tajimi
Finished
It has been 100 years since the name "tile" was unified in Japan. Now, a movement is emerging to question the appeal of tiles and seek a new direction. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the museum will hold a special exhibition by "Studio Record," which won the Silver Prize for its tile work at the 12th International Ceramics Exhibition Mino.

Throughout 2022, the museum has been asking what is the role and appeal of tiles through a special exhibition that looks back on 100 years of tiles in Japan. This exhibition is an opportunity to think about the future of tiles. Studio Record is a studio based in Gifu and Nagoya, centering on Tomohiro Miyabe, a ceramic and modeling artist, with the participation of artists from several genres such as ceramics and woodworking, who are engaged in a wide range of activities from tile and fixture production to the planning and management of art events. For this exhibition, the artists will once again walk around the tile production sites in the Tono region, with a focus on Kasahara-cho, Tajimi City, and express their feelings and thoughts through their artwork and exhibits. In collaboration with industry professionals and research facilities, this will be an ambitious exhibition that will show new possibilities for tiles.
