Takuya Ikezaki, Shinichiro Kano
Takuya Ikezaki (b.1981) was born on Tokunoshima Island, spent his childhood on the island, and grew up in Kagoshima City before attending Musashino Art University and studying in China. He then set up a studio in Tokyo, but moved to the US in 2018 and is currently based in New York. He has been searching for his own place in the world and has been working in an environment and landscape that has changed drastically since the pandemic. In 1953, the Amami Islands, including Tokunoshima, were liberated after eight years of postwar U.S. occupation. By overlapping his current address, which is stamped and marked, with the landscape of his birthplace, Tokunoshima, the artist seems to be continuing his search for his identity.

Shinichiro Kano (b.1982) has painted motifs such as playing cards, dice, and a maze made of twigs placed on the floor, from different perspectives, sizes, and relationships. In this way, a work that appears to be complete on its own is given an air of mystery and symbolic significance through its relationship with other paintings, as if to suggest that there is a complex story behind everyday objects or a hidden law that reveals the world. The exhibition was held at Shoenji Temple in Kodaira City until the end of January, where he presented new recent works. In his recent works, he has deconstructed the figurative motifs of the past and added more layers to them, which makes the discomfort on the canvas stand out and seems to cut off the association game in the middle of the painting.
