Wolfgang Gil
Wolfgang Gill uses malleable materials such as curves, edges, and geometry as sound to explore sculptural sounds through installations that allow the entire space and location to be experienced as artwork.

In this exhibition, in addition to the acoustic sculpture presented at the Newark Museum in 2022, two new works and a reconstructed sound installation in the B1F space will be introduced. Sound plays a crucial role in creating acoustic sculptures, predicting how sound will resonate is difficult. By playing various sounds through objects and observing the relationship between what is visible and what is audible, we explore the resonance characteristics of the objects. Through this extensive process, unique sets of sounds are generated within the objects, defining the language of the objects themselves.

For the production of this exhibition, mock-ups including walls, wiring, and automation were meticulously prepared in a studio in Joetsu over three months to refine the acoustic experience and rationalize functionality. These were then transported from Joetsu to Tokyo.

After the exhibition, the same walls will be reused in the museum "Honk-Tweet" under construction in Joetsu for Gill's permanent exhibition. Additionally, a coffee shop will be attached, functioning as a hub for the community to hold workshops and educational programs.
