The "Yamanashi Media Arts Awards" (YMAA) is a public offering program for art and cultural creation that Yamanashi Prefecture is undertaking to realize a local community filled with creativity. The program aims to cultivate individuals with high expressive and imaginative skills or advanced digital technology, while also recognizing original and innovative works. It positions the Art Awards as a platform to generate new values and technologies.

The third edition, being held this time, has Masaki Aoyagi (Director of the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tama Art University, former Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs) as the chairman of the judging committee. Other members include Yu Aramaki (artist, lecturer at the Department of Integrated Design, Faculty of Art, Tama Art University), Yasuko Imura (Chief Researcher, Information Resource Department, National Art Center, Tokyo), Rei Kosakai (Curator, Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art), Shunsuke Takao (Creative Coder, Associate Professor, Department of Media Expression, Faculty of Literature, Konan Women's University), Issho Yamagata (artist, Y-Gold Awardee 2022), and Nao Yoshihira (filmmaker, dancer).

In this exhibition, 20 selected works from 378 submissions from Japan and abroad will be announced online and across three areas within Yamanashi Prefecture. The cities of Kofu, Hokuto, and Fujiyoshida serve as the venues, and during the exhibition period, a final judging panel will determine the Y-Gold (Grand Prize), Y-Silver (Excellence Prize), and Y-Crystal (Yamanashi Prefecture Award) awards, which aim to create new values and meanings specific to the region.

Yamanashi Prefecture has begun efforts in the incubation of artistic and cultural creation for a prosperous future of the local community. In today's world, where economic activities and social structures are undergoing significant changes, the hope is that through this exhibition of selected works, visitors will have the opportunity to experience new creativity and expand their imagination and curiosity.
