Yoshio Kitayama
The new work, which gives the exhibition its name, is a series of clay dolls, one at a time, painted on large sheets of Torinoko paper by Rotring. After the clay dolls are painted, they are destroyed and new dolls are created in a series of production rituals. The dolls, filled from one corner of the screen to the other, perform acts that are caricatures of human behavior from birth to death.

This work is the latest in a series called "Idols," but in parallel Yoshio Kitayama has also produced a series of all-over abstract paintings entitled "Cosmographs. As the name implies, the initial drawings were reminiscent of actual stars and planets, but they have evolved from there to include a vast number of small circles and dots that now cover the entire picture plane.

Kitayama, who continues to draw circles every day, says that each circle depicts a universe. The aggregation of these circles and dots, like a galaxy, forms a larger universe.

These two series form the two wheels of Kitayama's painting, repeatedly questioning the meaning of his birth into the world at the end of an endless chain of life.

The first part of this exhibition will be devoted to Kitayama's paintings, while the second part will be devoted to his sculptures, including new works.
