Yoshio Shirakawa
The "Place T House" Project Executive Committee will hold an exhibition of works by Shirakawa Masao, a Gunma-based artist focusing on the local community, at Rinko-kaku, an important cultural property in Maebashi City.

Shirakawa returned to Japan in 1983 after 13 years in Europe. In 1993, Shirakawa declared "Place, Gunma," and from 1994, he began to invite artists he knew to participate in the Kita-Kanto Zokei Art Museum in Maebashi and Rinko-kaku, using "place" as a base from which to explore the diversity of nature, climate, history, and culture. Through these activities, which could be called a testing ground for modern criticism, Shirakawa later reached the point where he created his representative works, "Actions at an Unmanned Station (Gunma and Food)" (2000) and "Ekiya no Kiba (Wooden Horse at Station House)" (2011).

This exhibition will re-present four of Shirakawa's works, including those that were exhibited in the "Place-Gunma" exhibition held at Rinko-Kaku in the 1990s. This year marks 30 years since the declaration of "Place-Gunma.
