Micusrat Production is a project commissioned by the Agency for Cultural Affairs to play a part in creating "new values" and contexts in which Japan can contribute to the development of culture and the arts around the world. Micusrat - Loves Music and Art" will be held.
As part of this project, in “Micusrat - Loves music and art - Sun/Yoshirotten 'Installation in Makuhari New City,'" for three days from Friday, August 18 to Sunday, August 20, 2023, Makuhari Kaihin Park, Mihamaen, bus stops, Makuhari In addition to the night sky of the new city center, an installation of Yoshirotten's masterpiece “Sun" will be exhibited in the plaza in front of Makuhari Messe and the beach of Makuhari in collaboration with the music festival "Summer Sonic".
"Sun" is a representative work by Yoshirotten, an artist and art director whose activities span art, design, and music in Japan and abroad. It consists of 365 images of the silvery sun reflecting the colors of its surroundings, drawn once a day for a year during the COVID-19 pandemic. Colored by hand with digital tools rather than automatically generated, every “Sun" has a different and unique impression, expressing the transition of things and seasons with a mixture of science fiction worldview and universality, and each “Sun" can be interpreted as a "view or time that only exists at that moment.
This installation includes “Sun," an outdoor LED screen that is one of the largest in Japan (approximately 12m x 7m in length), monolithic “Sun" (a freestanding three-dimensional work 2.0 to 2.8m high) at a berm (the border between the sea and beach), a park, a pond in a Japanese garden, “Sun" at a bus stop in the city, and “Sun" floating in the air. It is designed as a traveling installation that can be exhibited in Japan and abroad and consists of a total of about 50 “Sun" pieces.
The installation will also be exhibited at the "MAPP_MTL Festival" and "Quartier des spectacles" art projects in Montreal, Canada, from September to November 2023.
