Artists

Youki Hirakawa
Youki Hirakawa was born in 1983 in Nagoya, Japan, and has been showing many monochrome videos and serene installation works. His series "Lost Films," dealing with lost films from around the world, has been highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad, including invited screenings at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2019/Netherlands) and the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (2019/Germany). In recent years, he has been invited to participate in group exhibitions at Spirit and Endeavours (Salisbury Cathedral/2020/UK) and Lumiere (Durham Cathedral/2021/UK). In this exhibition, he will present a new group of works created through the long Corona Disaster.

The exhibition, titled "D.F.N.," will present a new development of Hirakawa's work that will dispel the image of his past work. Various seemingly unconnected objects are scattered throughout the space, including a clock covered with a cinematography filter, a beer bottle covered with water droplets, and a magazine painted silver. What ties them all together is the artist's keen eye for the structure of things themselves and his consistent curiosity about the mysterious nature of time.
