Nana Shibuya
In the 10th edition of the program, artists Namine Doi and painter Nana Shibuya were selected through an open call for entries. Shibuya's work focuses on themes of mourning and memory, inspired by the belief that Neanderthals once offered flowers to the dead. Shibuya explores the universal nature of mourning rituals and the act of remembering, expressed through the artist's unique use of fluctuating lines and margins on paper and canvas. This exhibition will feature works based on Shibuya's personal experiences during the Great East Japan Earthquake, reflecting on the Shibuya's memories of searching for essentials with the artist's mother in Tagajo and Shiogama. Through drawings, paintings, and quotations from regional poetry, Shibuya aims to evoke universal emotions surrounding life, death, and remembrance, offering solace and reflection to the audience.
