Artists

Yozo Ukita
Yozo Ukita (1924-2013) started working at Ozaki Shobo in Umeda, Osaka, in 1947. For 14 years, he edited and published "Kirin," a children's poetry magazine started by Yasushi Inoue, Iku Takenaka, Ryo Sakamoto, Kenichi Adachi, and others, together with his ally Yoshiro Hoshi. In 1962, Ukita left "Kirin" and spent the rest of his life as an owner of a bag factory in the city until 1983, when he moved to Europe at the invitation of Shozo Shimamoto, a close friend of Ukita's, and resumed his work. His energy for production, which was rekindled in his later years, never ran out, and he left behind a large number of works filled with a liberated spirituality. This exhibition will showcase Ukita's artistic activities along with 166 original copies of "Kirin”.
