The photographs comprising this exhibition, "Fragments of the Place 2017-2019," depict the Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum as their subject. Since being invited to the closing exhibition "Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum Closing Neo Vision New Expansion" held at the same museum in 2017, Yu Shinoda continued photographing until the time of the building's demolition in 2019.

The Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum, with its distinctive facade and proximity to Zenkoji Temple, has been cherished by people since its opening in 1966. Shinoda aimed his lens at the details of the building and its surroundings as it approached its end, such as the pillars supporting the covered walkways, sofas placed in the corridors, and the shadows of trees falling on the exterior walls. These elements, which have supported the museum for many years, were not particularly noticed during its demolition. Shinoda has expressed that he took these photographs to remember these elements as much as possible. The images that continue to linger after the demolition serve as an irreplaceable record of the interactions with the things that certainly existed at a certain time and place for Shinoda.
