Yufi Yamamoto portrays the daily lives of voluptuous women who stand languidly under the dazzling sun. The backdrop of her work is California, where she spent her teens and twenties, depicting scenes filled with the influence of LA's street and surf culture in a liberating and carefree manner that fills the canvas.
The focal point is the female figures. In contrast to the meticulously depicted backgrounds, the women's forms deliberately omit details, emphasizing the weight and fleshiness of the motifs, conveying something indistinct yet undeniably present, such as human emotions and presence. Passing through Yumiko's filter, everyday moments gain narrative, inviting viewers to experience the complex sensations of the situation, colors, and scents associated with the motifs.
This exhibition will debut over a dozen new works by Yufi Yamamoto at Wish Less, marking her first solo exhibition at the gallery.
