Yuji Shimono "W=1" (2024) Iron rust on watercolor paper 29 x 21cm

Yuji Shimono "Large Rust"

Chiba Citizens’ Gallery Inage
Finished

Artists

Yuji Shimono
Yuji Shimono believes in the potential of iron rust and continues to explore expressions that involve transferring rust onto paper and nylon.

Shimono views rust, often perceived as a negative result of metal corrosion, as a reflection of inefficiency and human characteristics in modern society, and as something that connects to the spirit of "wabi-sabi." He regards iron rust as "the greatest tool for expressing human emotions" and continues to pursue its expressive possibilities.

In this exhibition, under the theme of "communicating to others," there will also be an exhibition of works from a beeswax (candle wax) printmaking workshop for art students from local middle and high schools. By sharing Shimono's techniques and experiences with middle school students, the hope is that they will look forward to witnessing the process of creating new expressions.
