Yukiko Sugano
Yukiko Kanno's work is based in Hyogo, Japan, where she poetically creates narrative pieces using ultra-fine transparent glass lines and has received significant international attention, including a grand prize at the 4th International Art Triennial in 2019. In this exhibition, her first solo show at the gallery, 12 works will be on display.
Sugano's work is created using a variety of techniques such as burner work, kiln work, and gluing, and combining a wide range of materials such as glass, copper mesh, and plaster paste. Careful selection of the numerous techniques and materials used to make the clothes look like clothes and the hair looks like hair creates a multitude of looks for each part of the work that is hard to believe it is a work of glass.
Sugano, who creates motifs of people and living things based on her own experiences and the feelings that arise from them, takes many hints from the fact that plants and living things with various characteristics gather in nature to build a world, that humans are part of this world, and that things are always changing and in flux, and she uses this as a starting point to create her works.
The production is a time-consuming and gradual process, but the way the glass grows by piling up lines and dots gives her the feeling that the work is growing by itself.
Focusing on the relationship between pets and humans, this exhibition will express the changes in nectar that occur when we touch pets, embodying sensations and emotions that are instantly transmitted through "touch" and the reversal of the relationship between pets and humans, which cannot be visually recognized but can be felt with certainty.
