Artists

Yukiko Yanagida
Yukiko Yanagida was born in 1981 and graduated from the Graduate School of Tama Art University in 2005 with a degree in sculpture.

Yanagida's works are created using a very unique technique in which titanium is coated with a type of acid while an electric current is applied to the metal to bring out its color by taking advantage of its chemical transformation characteristics. No pigments or paints are applied to the surface of the work, but a film of color is created by the chemical transformation.

The motifs of Yanagida's world are phenomena that can change in an instant, changing feelings, landscapes, and ambiguous memories. Viewing her quiet abstract works, the viewer can experience a unique sense of connection between the work and the viewer's memory. It is similar to the sensation evoked by the sense of hearing and smell.

In this exhibition, her first in two and a half years, the gallery will become an enveloping space of silence and contemplation.
