Yuko Murata
GALLERY SIDE 2 is pleased to present ‘on the moon’, 13th solo exhibition by Yuko Murata. The exhibition consists of oil on canvas paintings, drawings and ceramics.

In Yuko Murata works the images are taken from old postcards, dictionaries, and tourists’ brochures. She picks up images that we might have seen before but quickly forgotten. Murata is in awe of the animals not for their cuteness but their wild nature. She keeps a keen distance to her objects. Her works are composed of rich brush marks with subdued colors and reduced forms. The new ceramics depict standing rabbits slightly bigger than a life size. She has been experimenting on ceramics since 2011, making stones, swans, and sea otters, that resemble and complement her paintings. Yuko Murata says ” The thin figure of her ceramic rabbits represent ourselves living in our contemporary lives with lost ideal, diversity, nature, something that has been important to us. They stand quietly, left behind high speed modern world.” The rabbits in painting present in some planet or future space, looking at phases of stars.
