Artist Yuriko Asano travels to various localities both in Japan and overseas where she learns about their respective traditional plant use and consumption methods, food cultures, as well as women's handicrafts that were passed down through generations. From these interactions, she creates artworks that document these experiences.
This exhibition will primarily feature watercolor paintings and prints depicting the plants she encountered during her recent fieldwork overseas, which include those from Gangwon Province in South Korea, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
As part of this exhibition, singer-songwriter and actor Kenta Maeno will have a live performance at the Grand Auditorium of the Shiogama Sugimura Jun Museum of Art. The artist is known to sing about the city’s poetic and emotional spirit, and will perform alongside Yuriko’s works.
