Yusuke Hanai, globally celebrated artist, has spent the past decade illustrating single-frame comics for THE SURFUR'S JOURNAL Japan. This collection, titled "BOARD SHORTS", captures the everyday life of surfers with Hanai’s distinctive perspective—sometimes elegant, sometimes bittersweet. His unique worldview has resonated with readers, making it a beloved and quietly popular section within the magazine. This collection brings together a decade’s worth of artwork in a single volume—a fresh milestone for Yusuke Hanai, offering an entirely new compilation of his work. The everyday scenes of surfers, captured in single-frame comics, are sure to bring a smile to your face.
To celebrate this publication, a commemorative exhibition will be held at GALLERY TARGET from Friday, November 29th, to Thursday, December 5th. In addition to this book, there will be copies of THE SURFUR'S JOURNAL Japan featuring an article on Hanai, limited-edition T-shirts, and even some original artworks from this book will be available for purchase.
A reception party on the opening day will feature a signing session with Hanai for those who make a purchase. Looking forward to seeing you all!
