Yosuke Kobashi
Yousuke Kobashi is a young artist who has drawn much attention with his solo exhibition at Criterium, Art Tower Mito, 2006 and his nomination for the VOCA award in the same year.
Kobashi’s “self-portrait” series consists of over 250 works which have a certain wildness and liberation of catharsis, the repeated creation of these works reflecting not narcissism but simply a freedom from the constraints of drawing others. In recent years however the artist has moved away from this single subject to encompass animals, mountains, nature and boats for example. This exhibition intends to present the work of Kobashi not based upon a particular theme but rather in an opportunity to show the free development of his depiction, which reflects the influence of fauvism and has recently challenged different medium such as pastels. Here a collection of 300 works offer a glimpse into Kobashi’s world.
