Takeshi Ikeda
Takeshi Ikeda presents a solo show after returning from N.Y. under the ACC scholarship, an honor previously granted to leading contemporary artists including Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, and Koki Tanaka. A musician as well as an artist, his projects include professional drumming for the hardcore punk band “Core of Bells.” He has focused on the theme of music in Japan since the 3.11 disaster. In search of new ways to create and appreciate music, he refers to the experiments of John Cage and Fluxus, attempting to expand the possibilities of the music beyond mere sound. As such, his work does not incorporate music directly, instead bring our attention to the contrast of sound and silence. A performance this June captivated curators at major museums including MOMA, the Guggenheim, and Manhattan’s New Museum.
