Ten years since its establishment, G/P Gallery will shift to a new form at the end of this year. As one of the exhibitions to celebrate its ten-year anniversary, the gallery presents “Ainu Neno An Ainu / Human-like Human,” a duo-exhibition by Italian documentary photographer Laura Liverani and the US-based up-and-coming filmmaker Neo Sora. Based in Japan and Italy, Liverani is a member of the long-term project Ainu Neno An Ainu. Sora was born in the United States and has worked as a filmmaker and photographer since graduating from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he majored in Film Studies and Philosophy. He founded the film production company Good Baby Films in 2015, and with the artist collective Lunch Bee House, co-filmed the documentary “Ainu Neno An Ainu,” which focuses on the life of contemporary Ainu people living in Nibutani, Biratori-Cho in Hokkaido. He is now working on post-production for this documentary film, focusing on the Ainu people’s powerful and delightful practices of observing their own culture and their struggles against Japan’s colonial history. G/P Gallery approaches this exhibition as a kind of “uncompleted album” and features fragments from this on-going project.
