Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature
Finished

Artists

Taruhi Furuta, Seiichi Tabata, Koichi Kume, Seiichi Horiuchi et al.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the picture book "The Adventure in the Closet," created by Taruhi Furuta and the artist Seiichi Tabata. This work, which depicts a child’s mysterious adventures in a closet, along with "The Homework Acceptance Corporation" and "Robot Kamii," vividly captures the lives of children growing up in a rapidly changing modern society and has been continuously supported and read by children.

Moreover, Furuta was active as a critic exploring the possibilities of children's literature and took a leading role in addressing social issues surrounding children and peace movements. This exhibition traces "The Adventures of Taruhi Furuta," who pursued new children’s literature that empowers children, through manuscripts and creative notes donated by his family, former collection books donated to Shirayuri Gakuen, and original illustrations by Seiichi Tabata, Koichi Kume, Seiichi Horiuchi, and others.
