Satoshi Kako
Picture book author Satoshi Kako (1926–2018) created more than 600 books, including the beloved Daruma-chan series and The Crow's Bakery. Having experienced the end of World War 2 at the age of 19, Kako found renewed hope and a joy for life through encounters with children.
After graduating from university, Kako worked while taking part in community activities with children, an experience that inspired a lifelong commitment to creating picture books. Hoping that future generations would find joy in living, Kako continued making books until the final years of a long career.
Through original illustrations and archival materials, this exhibition looks back on the breadth of Kako's work while exploring a lifelong wish for peace and for the happiness of children.
