100 Years of Tsukiji Little Theatre: The 20th Century of Shingeki

Waseda University Theatre Museum
Finished
Shingeki is a modern Japanese theater genre influenced by Western styles, focusing on dialogue and ideas. Originating in the late Meiji era, it reached its peak in the post-war period. In June 1924, Kaoru Osanai established the Tsukiji Little Theatre as Shingeki’s first dedicated venue. This centennial year, the exhibition features Shingeki-related materials from the Theatre Museum. It will explore Shingeki's wide-ranging impact and revisit "The 20th Century of Shingeki."

Lovely exhibition, especially enjoyed seeing all the posters. Please note, no photography is allowed. For non japanese speakers it may be hard to really fully understand the exhibition as everything is mostly written only in japanese. So if you are traveling just to see this, you may find it challenging. I'd recommend visiting the Waseda International House of Literature ( better known as the Haruki Murakami Library), which is a really beautiful spot! 💙✨️
