In the winter of 1909, the Takashimaya Department Store held the first "100 Modern Masters Exhibition" at its Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo branches. A hundred artists created new works for the exhibition, which were displayed on the hanging scrolls. The success of the exhibition led to the establishment of the Takashimaya Art Department. We hope visitors will enjoy this unique exhibition and the history behind it.
