20 Years After His Death, Koyo Hosoe's Exhibition "Photographing Hida" - Records and Memories, Eyes at the Crossroads

The Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu
Finished

Artists

Koyo Hosoe
Photographer Koyo Hosoe (1920-2003), a native of Takayama, spent his entire life capturing the changing lives of the people of Hida as they really were. Hosoe's eye for documentation, nurtured through his interviews, overlaps with the eye of the heart that remembers nostalgic landscapes, creating an image of Japan's hometown, “Hida Takayama".

This exhibition introduces rare photographs of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go, including those of the gassho-zukuri village of Shirakawa-go, as well as works photographed from the inside of Hida.
