Hiroshige Utagawa
"Utagawa Hiroshige: The Ota Collection" is a three part exhibition celebrating the museum's 25th anniversary.
Utagawa Hiroshige was an Ukiyo-e artist active during the late Edo period. Famous for his series of famous places such as "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" and "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo", he left behind an enormous number of works, many of which our museum possesses.
The third part of the exhibition, to be held in June, will feature the complete set of "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo". This exhibition shows not only all 120 prints but also the photographs of the actual places taken in Taisho era and the present. It is a precious opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Edo from Hiroshige's last works.
