Yasutomo Watanabe Retrospective

Utsunomiya Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Yasutomo Watanabe
Yasutomo Watanabe was born in Tochigi Prefecture in 1916. He studied Japanese paintings under Shoko Kawasaki at Tokyo Geijutsu University, and went on to win great acclaim as well as numerous prizes for his unique sense of color and touch.
Watanabe's work can be divided into three periods: the early years, where he used vivid colors to create an almost lyrical atmosphere, the middle years, where his works were more structural and used more stable colors, and the later years, where he used gold and silver to the theme of 'ocean'.
This exhibition will display paintings from each of the periods, as well as sketches to give the viewer an overview of Watanabe's career.
